Mr Buck, the captain of my tennis club sent me an email today. In it he has requested a list of my thirty one (not thirty, not twenty nine) favourite rock songs.
But tantalisingly he gives no explanation for this request. So, in the spirit of fairness (and Danny Baker) I have decided to accept solicitations for my list. Just click on the comments link at the bottom of this post and nominate a tune. One per person please and the first thirty one are guaranteed to make my list.
There is also the vexed questions of what makes a "rock" song, but I will leave that to your own sense of style and fairness.
Of course, if I get thirty one comments I will fall off my chair, so I will start on my own list just in case. Oh, and if anyone tells me they read this here diary and they haven’t contributed to the list then I will know they are telling me porkies.
Update
No anonymous postings will be accepted. You must put at least your real name in the comment for me to accept it. This means that the first suggestion is null and void. Thankfully.
the birdy song and agadoo
I couldn’t resist …
How about Everything I Do (I do it for you) Bryan Adams. Sounds just like your kind of song. I just know it’s going to make the list.
You can’t go past “Greg the Stop Sign” by TISM.
Well you can’t go past that classic Eagle Rock – can’t remember the band.
Well Ciaran you can go past “Greg the Stop Sign”, but only if you come to a complete stop, check if safe to proceed and then proceed with caution. Mrs P the band you are looking for is “Daddy Cool”. As for my own suggestion I know Mr Todd would be expecting the Australian National Anthem (Khe San, for the uninitated), by Cold Chisel, he may well get it but not from me. I shal, instead, put forward “The KKK Took My Baby Away” by the “Ramones”. It was a toss up between that and “Crocodile Hunter (Big Steve Irwin)” by that great Australian band, “The Wiggles”.
There can only be one submission for your number one favourite – Celine Dion – My Heart will go on.
Your favourite artist – Celine Dion – My heart will go on.
No “favourites” list can be complete without at least one track from Pink Floyd, so I’ll go with Another Brick in the Wall.
Look no further than “In the air tonight” by Phil Collins. Thank you.
My real name is Phil. I like Oranges.
I would like to submit “I surrender” by “Rainbow” – what a lovely song.
“I surrender, I surrender – I’m giving up the part of pretender……..”
