Back

We are back from our week in France, which was fantastic. But more of that later, accompanied by some photos.

In the meantime Ciaran (who still hasn’t sorted out his archives) has been to see the latest Matrix movie and didn’t like it. All I’m going to point out is that he thinks that Lord of the Toss is a good film. So Keanu’s latest could actually be quite good …

Rain, Rain, Go Away

Ciaran mentioned yesterday that it was raining in Sydney, but not this much. Blimey. It reminds me of August 1998 when it rained every day, and I had to walk from my house to Manly Wharf every day to catch the ferry. That period can best be described as soggy.

It is good to see that the NSW Government are staying true to their conservative roots and keeping the water usage restrictions in place.

True Stories From The Grammar Police

Spotted in an email from my project manager this morning;

"With respect to the Web Workshop on Tuesday, we need to decide how to support the process from a Technical perspective. Arguably <developer> should be present, but that will impact the <hand waving> stream… we’ll catch up on this one."

The scary thing is that he talks like that as well.

Not Quite Retro Enough

I’ve found out where all of the good music has gone to – BBC – 6 Music. Sadly only available on the intarweb or new fangled digital radio but we’ve got a nice fat pipe at work (ooh err).

Although I’m sure the 70’s throwback will say that its not quite retro enough they are currently running a feature on The Smiths, still the finest pop band in the world. Well, possibly in a dead heat with Squeeze.

The station gains extra credibility by the fact that the breakfast show is presented by the 70’s throwback’s doppelganger. I can sense a little confusion. Trust me, its a well known fact that my old school mucker and the tv funny man were seperated at birth. If you’re not convinced compare that BBC photo with this one.

New Book

This just in, and rocketing to number one on my list of books to buy, a teaser for Neal Stephenson’s new book Quicksilver, volume one of what he has called "The Baroque Cycle". If you haven’t read any of his books then shame on you, and line up behind me to get this one, you will thank me. [link courtesy of Boing Boing]

More Ex-Pat News

As an addendum to yesterday’s mention of people I know from Oz who are now here in blighty, I recently received an email from Mr Perusco. In it he mentioned that he quit his job with the mighty employer and was indulging his wanderlust. In essence he was asking if I knew anyone who could give him a job.

Being the tip top, up to the minute communications guru that I am I sat on his message for a week or so and eventually replied to him yesterday. Only to get an immediate bounce from the Oakton mail server. For the less technically inclined an email bounce is the email servers way of telling you that they don’t know this person and to stop bothering them thanks very much.

Rather than abandon Mr P I racked my brains for a way to get in contact. After a glass ot two of cotes de nuits I plumped for the obvious, and sent out a shout to Mr T. Who has responded handsomely, cheers Mark. By the way, did you know that a Google search for your name informs us that you aren’t a freelance Kiwi chancer, but rather that you are the CEO of Citrix Corporation? Mate, you’ve been hiding your light under bushel.

What next though, Mr Auld as president of the free world? Or at least of the best part of the best free world in the world. Stranger things have happened.
